Intimidation sponsored fighters provide spectacular, award-winning finishes on national stage for Bellator

The Intimidation brand is synonymous with fantastic finishes, especially for the top fighters inside the Bellator organization. Many fighters bearing the Intimidation logo have provided exciting knockouts and submissions for Bellator, including Brian Rogers, Season 6 Welterweight Champion Karl Amoussou, top-ranked female fighter Jessica Eye and former Olympian Alexis Vila to name a few.

Brian Rogers MMABrian Rogers came on board with Intimidation in 2011, and “The Predator” has produced three highlight reel knockouts in that span. At “Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Hendo” Rogers broke onto the national scene with a TKO over Ian Rammel, and he followed up that performance with a head kick in the first round of Bellator’s Season 5 Middleweight Tournament that earned him a victory over Victor O’Donnell. Upon returning in the Season 6 tournament, Rogers (pictured, left) provided a Knockout of the Year candidate with his flying knee finish over Vitor Vianna at Bellator 61, which has since been named the best knockout in Bellator history. That same knockout was named as one of the finalists for Knockout of the Year at the 2012 World MMA Awards.

Karl Amoussou has taken a different path to Bellator success, as the Frenchman submitted two of three foes en route to becoming the Bellator Season 6 Welterweight Tournament champion. Karl Amoussou - Bellator MMAHe tapped Chris Lozano with a rear naked choke in the quarterfinals, and he then earned a title shot against Bellator Welterweight Champion Ben Askren with a heel hook finish over Bryan Baker that is a Submission of the Year candidate. Like Rogers above, Amoussou is one of Intimidation’s core of fighters who are supported in their fights and training throughout the year.

Four of the five highlight reel knockouts at Bellator 51 came from Intimidation sponsored fighters. Joey Holt blasted Clint Musser with a flying knee in the first round (pictured, right), and not to be outdone, Dan Spohn introduced himself to the national MMA scene with a nine-second KO of his own. Both Holt and Spohn were featured on HDNet (now AXS TV) as 2011 finalists for the Bazzie Award for KO Kick of the Year. John Hawk earned a TKO over Allen Weickart, but the shot heard around the mixed martial arts world was Alexis Vila’s overhand right that completely put former Bellator Featherweight Champion Joe Warren to sleep in the night’s main event.

Joey Holt KO of Clint Musser at Bellator 51The bantamweight division has seen a healthy dose of Intimidation fighters, as both Season 6 Bantamweight Tournament finalists were sponsored by the brand. Luis Nogueira earned his spot in the finals with a highlight reel knockout over Hiroshi Nakamura at Bellator 70.

Meanwhile, Season 7 has truly taken the spectacular finishes to a new level. The Intimidation brand has been regularly seen on both MTV2 and Spike.com and the highlights are regularly broadcast on MMA Uncensored on Spike TV as well as Inside MMA on AXS TV.

Fighters from Intimidation’s home state of Ohio did their best to show the depth of talent in the Buckeye State as middleweights Mojo Horne (rear naked choke) and Jason Butcher (guillotine choke) both scored 1st round submissions live on Spike.com at Bellator 78 in Dayton. Jessica Eye MMA - BellatorMeanwhile, one of Intimidation’s core sponsored fighters, Jessica “Evil” Eye, was able to show fans on a national stage why she is already one of the most popular fighters in the state of Ohio. Fighting opposite Bellator Women’s 115lb Champion Zoila Gurgel in a 125lb bout at Bellator 83, Eye scored a 1st round technical submission against her rival in just 58 seconds of cage time.

But the stellar finishes in Bellator’s Season 7 were not limited to Ohio-based fighters. The brand’s ties to Minnesota were seen on MTV2 as Mike Richman added yet another stunning KO scoring a head kick to drop his opponent at Bellator 76 and advance to the semifinals. In addition, New York’s Team Bombsquad was well represented as Shahbulat Shamhalaev scored consecutive TKO wins inside the Bellator cage at Bellator 76 and again three weeks later. Shah Shamhalaev MMA - BellatorFighting fellow Intimidation sponsored Richman at Bellator 79, Shamhalaev connected yet again to score the 1st round TKO and advance to the Season 7 Featherweight Tournament finals at Bellator 84.

Intimidation sponsored fighters complete 8-3 night at Bellator 51 with spectacular Knockouts by Vila, Spohn & Holt

September 27, 2011 by

Bellator 51 proved to be a stellar event for any MMA fan seeking exciting fights. In Bellator’s first ever event in Canton, Ohio with the NAAFS co-promoting the preliminary card, fans left the arena talking about a night full of Knockout of the Year candidates. From the first fight of the night all the way to the final fight televised on MTV2, the KOs kept coming at an event in which Intimidation Clothing was represented like no time before. In total, Intimidation sponsored 11 fighters on the Bellator 51 card finishing 8-3. Alexis Vila defeats Joe Warren @ Bellator 51With 3 fights featuring both fighters sponsored, the end result was an incredibly successful night for Bellator, the NAAFS, Ohio MMA and Intimidation Clothing as well.

The night began with one of three fights that featured both sides sponsored by Intimidation. After Clint Musser (2-1) wrestled Holt (2-0) to the ground and worked on his ground and pound, Holt was able to get the fight back to the stand up before landing a flying knee to score the KO win.

The second fight of the night saw John Hawk pound an under-sized Allan Weickert for two rounds so badly that Weickert could not answer the bell for the 3rd round. Hawk improves to 6-3 as a pro as he looks to take the next step in his career.

Dan Spohn (pictured, left) was up next, a fighter who is quietly emerging as one of the top 205 pound prospects in the nation, and he did not make his family, friends, fans and coaches wait long. Only a polite touch of gloves prevented Spohn from scoring the fastest KO in Bellator history as he landed a hard left knee for the 9 second KO of Dane Bonnigson. Spohn improves to 6-0 as the reigning NAAFS Light Heavyweight Champion and seems a perfect fit for Bellator’s next Light Heavyweight Tournament, expected to take place during the Spring of 2012.

Dan Spohn @ Bellator 51A late addition to the Bellator 51 card, Jessie “The Mountain Man” Riggleman faced off with highly-touted Bantamweight prospect Farkhad Sharipov. Riggleman walked to the cage with both Intimidation’s premium-quality MMA board shorts and a Intimidation mesh hat and ground out a split decision victory to improve to 11-2 in his pro MMA career.

The most popular fighter on the card in terms of fan support, Jessica Eye was up next making her Bellator debut after signing with the organization in June. After a dominating 1st round Eye was able to do enough to score a split decision win over Casey Noland to improve to 4-1 as a pro.

With a NAAFS Interim Featherweight Championship fight being scheduled on the card after the MTV2 televised main event, the crowd enjoyed a break in the action before the Bellator Season 5 Bantamweight Tournament quarterfinals began. Starting off the night’s tournament bouts was another fight featuring two fighters both sponsored by Intimidation Clothing with Ed “Wild” West (pictured with Intimidation CEO Luke Jernigan) versus Luis Nogueira. West lost to Champion Zach Makovsky in the first Bellator Bantamweight Tournament and looks for the rematch with his friend and rival. Nogueira entered the tournament as one of the more heavily-hyped fighters in this season of Bellator events, but in the end it was West’s high-energy style that earned the unanimous decision win to advance.

After two more Bantamweight quarterfinal fights were complete, Intimidation-sponsored Alexis Vila (pictured in cage above) stepped into the cage in the televised main event against Joe Warren. While Warren was seeking his second Bellator Championship belt, Vila was making the step up to the big leagues for the first time, at age 40. Vila had Warren rocked and nearly missed his opportunity early in the 1st round but came back to land multiple blows to the head of Warren before a shot to the chin knocked the Bellator Featherweight Champ stiff. Now 10-0 as a pro, Vila advances to the Bantamweight Tournament semifinals in October.

Ed West with Luke Jernigan of Intimidation ClothingThe final fight of the night was the local main event featuring the NAAFS Interim Featherweight Championship between Frank Caraballo and Dustin Kempf. With both fighters sponsored by Intimidation for their fight, an unfortunate knee injury by Kempf brought a bit of an anti-climatic end to the night of fights. Not to be lost was an impressive start by Caraballo, the new Interim 145 champ of the NAAFS while Donny “Eagle Eye” Walker competes in the UFC.
