Weekend MMA Recap: Parrish & Whitaker impress as Intimidation scores another winning weekend in Indiana, Kentucky & Michigan

The first weekend of April was busy for Intimidation Clothing, as fighters and events were sponsored all over the country to start a month filled with action.

Multiple fighters were in action at the Midwest Fight Series event in Indianapolis, as Dustin Parrish and Bryant Whitaker both picked up wins on the card. Dustin Parrish MMAFor Parrish (1-0), it was a successful first foray into the pro ranks after a 9-1 amateur career that saw him as one of the most heralded amateurs in the Hoosier State. Parrish (pictured, right) took a split decision victory over Frank Sloan while Bryant Whitaker (4-2) took a second round submission victory over fellow Team Intimidation fighter Kyle Nickle (2-2) at the same MFS events. With the win Whitaker (pictured, left) has won 3 in a row after a 1-2 start to his professional MMA career. Also on the card, Intimidation sponsored fighter Cameron VanCamp (0-0-1) fought to a majority draw against Cody Groves (0-1-1) in his professional debut. In amateur action Chris Tanner improved his record with a first round submission victory and David Dever dropped a TKO loss to David Stephens.

The Intimidation Indiana/Kentucky crew had a busy weekend, first putting together a banner night at Hardrock MMA 64 in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday, and then appearing at the POP!CON comic con event in Evansville, Indiana on Saturday. Team Intimidation fighters were in no short supply at the POP!CON event, as Ruben Perez, Ryan Conaway, Markus Hall and Patrick Ruby all made appearances at the Intimidation booth to greet and interact with fans and sign autographs. The Intimidation Michigan crew also had a successful night at the Exiled MMA: Insurgent event in Cedar Springs, Michigan.

Bryant Whitaker MMAThe Hardrock MMA 64 event was bittersweet for Team Intimidation, because despite a successful night at the Intimidation booth, the planned professional debut of longtime Team Intimidation fighter Brandon Hurst was scratched at the last minute due to his opponent pulling out of the fight with an injury.

In Washington, sponsored fighter and Bellator MMA veteran Scott Thometz (6-3) dropped a hard fought battle, as he succumbed to a TKO against Jacob Boysen (6-1).

This weekend, Intimidation will invade Western New York once again on the back of cornerstone Team Intimidation fighter Kyle “Kyote” Rozewski. First up, Rozewski will be on hand to provide a seminar at Robert Koch’s International Black Belt Academy in Alden, New York with Team Intimidation in attendance followed by Intimidation’s sponsorship of the New York State Grappling Championship in Fredonia, NY.

Weekend Recap: Chapman, Comer, Hawk, Morrow, Rozewski & Zomcik highlight record weekend for Intimidation at Colosseum Combat & Driven MMA events

March 1st marked one of the biggest days in Intimidation Clothing history, with three events sponsored in three different states and multiple fighters also representing the brand in action. Sponsoring two of the most successful and respected Local MMA promotions in the Midwest, Colosseum Combat MMA in Indiana and Driven MMA (powered by the NAAFS) in Ohio, the Intimidation brand was once again the most visible supporter of Local MMA in the region.

Jessica Zomcik WMMA The Intimidation crew was on hand at the inaugural Driven MMA event in Canton, Ohio, where fans flocked to the official booth all night while sponsored fighters went 5-2 inside the cage. The all professional event featured 12 bouts, including victories by the likes of Team Intimidaton’s “Big” John Hawk, Jessica “The Zombie” Zomcik, Isaiah “The Beast” Chapman, George “Bonesaw” Comer and Kyle “Kyote” Rozewski. In addition, five Intimidation alums fought on the card with Tony Castillo, Jr., Maxim Grishin, Reggie Parks and Wes Hanson all picking up wins.

Hawk picked up a victory in his first appearance at heavyweight since 2011, as the 3-time Bellator MMA veteran moved to 9-5 overall with a unanimous decision win over fellow Intimidation sponsored heavyweight William “King” Penn (7-4). One of two fighters with his Intimidation signature tee on sale at the event, Hawk is a mainstay with Team Intimidation as a product of Strong Style in MMA.

Zomcik – who sported the “I ♥ #WMMA” tee on her way to the cage – was successful in her pro debut, as the Evolve MMA product picked up where she left off in her amateur career with a 5th straight win overall since switching camps to Evolve MMA. Isaiah Chapman MMAZomcik (pictured, right) completed her 9-3 amateur MMA career by winning the Tuff-N-Uff Women’s 145lb Tournament in November and is starting to be seen nationally as one of the top prospects in Women’s MMA.

Chapman (pictured, left) made his return to the cage in nearly a year after an injury, and picked up a unanimous decision over Charles Stanford (4-2) to move to 5-1 overall. With his Intimidation signature tee on display and for sale throughout the night, Chapman, a long-time member of Team Intimidation, got back on track after ending his amateur career at 12-1 and starting his pro career at 4-0.

Comer continued his run as the most consistent lightweight in Ohio, as he moved to 4-1 overall with a dominant 3-round submission victory over Anthony Morgan (3-1). After a 9-0 amateur career saw Comer struggle to finish his opponents, it is apparent that his training at GriffonRawl MMA is paying off as he scored his third finish in four pro wins.

Kyle Rozewski MMAAnd finally, Rozewski (pictured, right) picked up a win with a first round triangle submission over fellow Team Intimidation member Dustin Kempf. Rozewski, who signed an expanded sponsorship deal with Intimidation earlier this year, earned his fourth win in five fights with each of the four wins coming via stoppage.

Meanwhile, at the sponsored Colosseum Combat XXVIII event in Kokomo, Indiana, sponsored fighter Robert “The Destroyer” Morrow (13-15) successfully defended his light heavyweight title, as he moved to 7-3 in his last 10 fights with a first round TKO victory over Keith Smetana. The win earned him the “Performance of the Night” honors from BluegrassMMA, who were there covering the event. While Intimidation planned to have multiple others fighters sponsored at the event, between injuries and no-show opponents, Morrow was the lone fighter sponsored on the night.

Finally, Intimidation sponsored the Cashfeddy Fight League, a newly-formed Michigan MMA promotion in Grand Rapids.

March 1st shaping up to be huge date for Intimidation & for Local MMA in the Midwest

March 1, 2014. Mark your calendars MMA fans, especially if you live in the Midwest. Intimidation Clothing is pleased to be working with three promotions on that date to sponsor events in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan as the brand continues to be the industry’s biggest supporter of Local MMA. Ryan Thomas MMAIntimidation will feature crews at all three events and will be stocked full of the latest styles of t-shirts, hoodies, women’s apparel, hats, beanies and more while also sponsoring a variety of fighters across the region.

The premier of Driven MMA in Canton, Ohio is where we start our look ahead as the state of Ohio is in for a treat on the same weekend as the Arnold Sports Festival taking place in Columbus. With the first all-pro card in the state of Ohio since Bellator 66 in April 2012, Driven MMA’s inaugural event has the makings of an instant classic with the areas top pros from top to bottom. Working in conjunction with the NAAFS, a slew of former NAAFS pro and amateur champions will appear on this card including Nick Duell, John Hawk, Isaiah Chapman, George Comer and more. In addition, 2013 Tuff-N-Uff Woemn’s 145lb Champion Jessica Zomcik returns home to make her pro debut while two Intimidation staples – Kyle Rozewski & Dustin Kempf – are scheduled for a bout that has with “Fight of the Night” written all over it. Isaiah Chapman MMAIn addition to sponsoring each of the previously mentioned fighters on the Driven MMA card, Intimidation will have a fully-stocked booth at the event with each fighter sporting a specific different walkout tee.

In Kokomo, Indiana, Mark Slater (pictured below) is a bit of a celebrity. The promoter for Colosseum Combat MMA might be one of the best sponsorship-hustling promoters in the industry – and that is saying a lot. Having now worked with Intimidation to sponsor each of his shows for two years straight, the Colosseum Combat promotion is seeing more and more Intimidation in and around their cage. On March 1st that is no different as reigning CC Professional Welterweight Champion Ryan “The Tank Engine” Thomas is set to defend his title. A UFC, Bellator and XFC vet, Thomas (17-8) has been sponsored by Intimidation in 3 of his past 4 fights including this one and is 2-0 fighting inside the the Colosseum Combat cage. Meanwhile former #1 featherweight contender Bobby Emmons will also rock Intimidation once again in Kokomo. The decorated grappler is expected to unveil his new “White Trash BJJ” signature tee at the event with the shirt on display and on sale at the Intimidation booth.

At UFC on FOX 10 in Chicago, a pair of Intimidation alums put on impressive showings with the most important victories of their respective careers. First, Michigan native Daron “The Detroit Superstar” Cruickshank picked up his fourth UFC win in six outings, as he finished Mike Rio with a spinning wheel kick that was followed by some punches before the referee jumped in. Intimidation continues strong push into Michigan’s Local MMA market thanks to Shad Thomsen’s resiliency

For years now the Intimidation Clothing name has been known as one of the biggest supporters of Local MMA across the country, but especially in the Midwest and surrounding states. The Ohio-based company regularly attends MMA events in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and New York and sponsors events across the nation and now in Canada and England. But while the company continues to grow, it is the people behind the scenes that deserve much of the credit.

Intimidation's Shad Thomsen with UFC Lightweight Daron CruickshankA former MMA fighter himself, Shad Thomsen is better known on Facebook as “Michigan Intimidation Distributor.” A huge MMA fan and regular at the weight bench, Thomsen is a worker – he grew up on a small farm in Sidney, Michigan and has had to work for everything he has achieved in life. What makes this even more impressive is his constant battle with dyslexia. “Shad has trouble getting his point across at times, both in speaking and online,” stated Luke Jernigan, President and CEO of Intimidation Clothing, LLC. “But what impresses me about Shad is his consistency, his resiliency and his drive. Add in a huge heart and a genuine desire to do things the right way and it shows that his character is undeniable. This is exactly why I love having him as a member of Team Intimidation.”

Thomsen is a former high school wrestler and track athlete who has trained for the Mixed Martial Arts world at American Muscle and Mid Michigan MMA over the years. Also a fan of weight lifting, Thomsen’s favorite quote is simply “It still your set” – something he got from CT Fletcher. After a 3-5 fighting career Thomsen was recruited into the business by Phil “The Voice” Davey, the legendary Michigan ring and cage announcer. Davey knew of Thomsen’s drive and love of the fighting game and saw an opportunity to help him do more inside the MMA industry.

Over the past year Thomsen has taken his booth of Intimidation Clothing merchandise across the state of Michigan to MMA events such as Mad Men Promotions, Capital City Fight Championships, Exiled MMA, Prison City Fight League, Empire Cage Combat and more. In addition, with Intimidation’s new deal in place with the newly-formed Lifetime MMA organization in Grand Rapids, MI, Thomsen will again be shaking hands with the fans and making deals on top-quality clothing from a brand that customers can trust.

Pictured to the right with Intimidation alum and current UFC Lightweight Daron Cruickshank, also a Michigan native, Thomsen has trained alongside the likes of Glen Baily, and the professional MMA brother and sister duo of Victor and Alanna Jones. Says Thomsen, “Victor is my little brother – I owe him for helping me. He is always there for and me.”

Year In Review: 2013 proves to be highly successful for the growth of the Intimidation brand

At this time of year we hear much about resolutions to get better and looking back at what has been accomplished over the past 12 months. Here at Intimidation Clothing, things are not much different, although the moniker of “getting better” is not something we take for granted – it’s a daily goal. After a 2012 that saw Intimidation Clothing continue to sponsor Bellator events and a host of top-tier regional MMA promotions as well as fighters on major TV networks, 2013 had a lot to live up to. And indeed it did as 2013 proved to be a banner year for our company breaking every known record the company had established in past years. Since starting this company in late 2009, the Intimidation brand has steadily grown into one of the most recognizable names in the MMA and combat sports industry, and we take a look back at the year that was in our 2013 Year in Review.

Charlie Brenneman MMAThe year began strong with the sponsorship of one of the more high-profile MMA fighters Intimidation has worked with as Charlie Brenneman (pictured, right) fought in Altoona, Pennsylvania on January 8th, defeating a fighter we would later come to sponsor and become a big fan of in Eric Irvin. Brenneman, a 8-fight UFC vet who made the move from 170lbs to lightweight in 2013, has since gone 4-0 at 155lbs as he looks to once again make a name for himself in the UFC.

Also early in January, the impact of Jessica Eye’s win over Zoila Gurgel in December 2011 was seen as she rocketed to the top of the Women’s MMA rankings. Eye, who bounced between Bellator MMA and the highly-respected and Intimidation sponsored NAAFS, was ranked as the #1 female fighter in the world at 125lbs before announcing the move to 135lbs late in 2013.

As the month of January wore on the Intimidation brand continued to get high-profile exposure as Brian Rogers presented at the World MMA Awards in Las Vegas and AXS TV’s Best of 2012 featured a variety of Intimidation-sponsored fighters. As Bellator MMA geared up for their debut on Spike TV, and flew both Rogers and Eye out for the premier at Bellator 85, Intimidation continued its strong push on the Local MMA scene into Indiana. With a fully-stocked crew traveling to events put on by Colosseum Combat MMA, Mad Wolf Promotions/Art of War, Rocktagon MMA, Chris Lytle’s Midwest Fight Series, HookNShoot and more, Intimidation Clothing was able to replicate our strong presence as the biggest supporter of Local MMA in Ohio and do the same in Indiana. Chris Lytle at Intimidation boothMeanwhile, the aforementioned Rocktagon MMA promotion and Intimidation began their partnership in January 2013 ti increase Intimidation’s TV exposure and add more regional events to the company’s slate as Rocktagon has held events in Ohio, Indiana, Texas, California and more.

In February, longtime Team Intimidation member Dan “Dragon” Spohn made his debut for the UVC in Columbus, Ohio and started a memorable year on a high note. Spohn scored submission wins at both UVC 22 in January and UVC 23 in May to bounce back from a rough 2012 and open doors for greater things in his MMA career. As Spohn headlined the UVC events, Intimidation continued their support of the Ultimate Victory Challenge promotion in Columbus, Ohio throughout the year as the two organizations expect to work together for years to come.

Brian Rogers, Isaiah Chapman & Jessica EyeIntimidation’s annual trip to the Arnold Sports Festival took place in March where the brand featured Eye, Rogers, Spohn, TUF 7 vet Luke Zachrich, UFC & TUF 10 vet Wes Sims and fast-rising prospect Isaiah Chapman signing autographs at the company’s booth. The Arnold once again provided a plethora of picture opportunities and fantastic exposure for the brand and featured the public release of Intimidation’s popular Irish “Shamrocked” tee design.

March continued strong with the brand sponsoring explosive knockout artist Chidi Njokuani live on AXS TV at RFA 7 near Denver, Colorado and continued with the sponsorship of NAAFS: Caged Vengeance 13 in Canton, Ohio – one of the best fight cards in Ohio MMA history. Featuring Intimidation sponsored Isaiah Chapman, Frank Caraballo, George Comer, John Hawk, Nick Duell, Antonio Castillo, Jr. and Julian Lane along with Intimidation alum Travis Clark and later-signed Jessica Zomcik, the event not only had a truly stacked fight card but was also a sell-out that thrilled the fans in attendance.

Jessica Eye MMA - Bellator2013 also saw Intimidation Clothing continue its strong support of women’s MMA. As long-time Team Intimidation member Jessica “Evil” Eye continued her winning streak and made the jump in weight to join the UFC, the company also continued their work with another awesome member of the current UFC bantamweight division in Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke. After Duke was the company’s Athlete of the Month in March 2013, she proceeded to fight at Invicta FC 5 in Kansas City, sign autographs at the company’s booth at XFC 23 in Louisville, Kentucky in April, and later appear on TUF 18 on Fox Sports 1 before earning her roster spot with a win on the TUF Finale in November. Intimidation also sponsored Tanikka Brents, Rebecca Heintzman, Amber Stautzenberger, Kelly Warren and Kaitlin Young during the year and inked the top-ranked amateur at 145lbs in the world, Jessica Zomcik, to a sponsorship contract. A product of Evolve MMA in Medina, Ohio, Zomcik went on to win the 2013 Tuff-N-Uff Featherweight Championship in Las Vegas to cap off her amateur career.

The company continued its strong support of the Local MMA scene by signing on to sponsor all Hardrock MMA events in 2013 and beyond in late March and continued the strong push into the Kentucky MMA scene in sponsoring the XFC’s return to the Bluegrass State at XFC 23 in Louisville on April 19th. Meanwhile, the company continued their growth outside of MMA in signing then 8-time Amateur National Champion boxer Cam F. Awesome (pictured, right) in early April. Awesome, who has had a banner year in 2013 as he pushes forward towards the 2016 Olympics, is a plant-based athlete and has won more titles in his weight class than anyone in the history of USA boxing. Cam F Awesome - BoxingHe is also a well-known local role model in Kansas City and is a proud Big of the Big Brother Big Sister program. and a strong advocate of cancer prevention and awareness via plant-based nutrition.

As April continued, Intimidation sponsorship of many of the best prospects in MMA continued seeing Mark Cherico and Brian Camozzi both continue to fight while sponsored by the Intimidation brand. Cherico (5-0), one of Pittsburgh’s most popular fighters and Camozzi (2-1), the Colorado-based lightweight and younger brother of UFC middleweight Chris Camozzi, continued to show the growth of the Intimidation brand across the nation.

May was a slow month for MMA but saw the Intimidation brand sponsor UVC 23 in Columbus as well as main event winner Dan Spohn (pictured, left). Dan Spohn MMAIn addition to Spohn, Intimidation sponsored Ronin Training Center owner Luke Zachrich, StrongStyle MMA’s Joe Heiland and more at another event rich with ties to the Intimidation brand. Later in the month, Intimidation-sponsored Brian Rogers and Jessica Eye made a second public appearance in Andover, Ohio’s Pymatuning Valley Middle School where the two athletes spoke on the importance of making good life choices, the effects of bullying and more.

Early in June each year Intimidation Clothing prepares for one major event – the NAAFS’ Fight Nite in the Flats event in Cleveland, Ohio. The biggest annual MMA event in the state of Ohio, the 2013 version, Fight Nite in the Flats IX, featured scheduled fights for Intimidation sponsored UFC vets Jason Dent and Forrest Petz, top-ranked female fighter Jessica Eye and Terry Blackwell, Brian Camozzi, George Comer, Maxim Grishin, Torrance Taylor and a variety of top amateurs.

The summer months saw Intimidation make two of the biggest moves in company history adding official distributors in Australia, Malaysia and Singapore. Working together with newly appointed Director of Sales Wes Jones, Intimidation President & CEO Luke Jernigan stated that “the International growth of the sport of MMA cannot be ignored and Intimidation Clothing intends to continue to be a part of this global economic impact.” Kyle Rozewski w/Luke JerniganThe company continues to push forward sponsoring fighters in International events including Cody Stevens at OneFC and Lee Morrison for M-1 Global, with more announcements expected in early 2014.

2013 saw Intimidation continue to build on their regional MMA growth sponsoring events and fighters in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Minnesota, North Dakota, Texas, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, Nevada, California and more as well as big cities like Cleveland, Chicago, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Buffalo, Kansas City, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Akron, Boise, Canton, Cincinnati, Minneapolis, Toledo and Las Vegas. It also saw Brian “The Predator” Rogers continue to make appearances on behalf of Bellator MMA including the BET Awards in Los Angeles, California. In addition, Rogers’ Bellator 61 flying knee KO of Vitor Vianna was once again named the #1 Knockout in Bellator’s history in July.

Two big pro/am MMA events from the NAAFS took place in Northeast Ohio in August as Intimidation sponsored both Caged Vengeance 14 in Carrollton and Rock ‘N Rumble 7 later in the month in Cleveland. At the Carrollton event Intimidation Clothing and Kyle “Kyote” Rozewski (pictured with Jernigan, above on right) began working together and doors opened almost immediately. Local MMA Series from IntimidationA native of the Buffalo, New York area, Rozewski has proven to be a great asset for the brand. In addition to getting Intimidation on board with gyms, fighters, promoters and media outlets from Western New York, Rozewski himself continues to build a name for himself inside the cage as a featherweight and outside of the cage as a commentator for the TNT Fight Series in Buffalo and for Pinnacle FC in Pittsburgh.

August also saw the release of Intimidation’s popular “Support Local MMA” t-shirts (pictured, left). After years of supporting the local MMA scene alongside MMAmadhouse, Bluegrass MMA, Cage Craze, OHMMA.com and a plethora of promoters and gyms, the Intimidation brand decided to put that support on, of all things, a t-shirt.

Brian Rogers MMANew signature shirts for multiple fighters were released in 2013 including the Isaiah “The Beast” Chapman tee in March, the Mark “The Pride of Bloomfield” Chercio signature tee in July and Brian Rogers’ second Intimidation signature tee featuring his flying knee KO (pictured, right). In addition, TUF 18 star Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke joined the Intimidation signature tee line, reserved for “championship level professionals” during the Fall of 2013 during her run on The Ultimate Fighter. The complete line of Intimidation MMA fighter signature shirts can be found online at IntimidationClothing.com.

Intimidate Cancer made its debut in late August and has continued to grow since then. With a popular Facebook page and the addition of 10 different ribbon colors for added cancer awareness, fans can rest assured knowing a portion of the proceeds from each shirt sold go back to cancer research and awareness. In addition, Intimidation Clothing’s Intimidate Cancer line is available for private fundraisers to help families in need.

Intimidate CancerIn September Intimidation Clothing signed on to sponsor their first two MMA events outside of the USA with MMA Battle Arena in the UK and Extreme Cage Combat in Canada. Sticking with the plan to find solid, strategic partnerships outside of the USA, Intimidation’s role as the biggest supporter of Local MMA soon became a moniker that applied to more than just the USA. Meanwhile, closer to home, Intimidation sponsored its first event in the Buffalo area in late September as the Buffalo and Western NY market became a bigger focus of the company’s regional growth plan.

As October began, Intimidation’s own Brian Rogers joined StrongStyle teammate Stipe Miocic teaching a MMA seminar in Toronto.
