#LocalMMA Monday: Colosseum Combat MMA

Filed under Local / Regional MMA, News

Mixed martial arts events have been popping up across the country in cities big and small, with varying levels of success. Typically when you see an event in a smaller city you expect a smaller show, but that’s not the case in Kokomo, Indiana (population: 45,000).

Mark Slater - Colosseum Combat MMAColosseum Combat MMA is arguably the best organization in the state of Indiana, and it became so while operating solely in the state’s 13th largest city. Colosseum Combat has become a go-to for top amateur and professional fighters alike, and the “little organization that could” regularly attracts some of the best regional talent available in the Midwest.

Owner and promoter Mark Slater has helped grow the organization to become one of the best regional events in the country, with highlights regularly shown on AXS TV’s “Inside MMA.”

Slater took over as owner in 2009 after the organization was launched by Jay Martin in 2006.

“Jay had built a good reputation for the organization so it was easy to start where he left off and grow the promotion each show,” Slater said. He’ll run his 20th show as owner – Colosseum Combat’s 30th overall – on October 11th, once again in Kokomo.

Colosseum Combat MMA girlsAlso acting as the promotion’s matchmaker, Slater has attracted some of the best regional talent to the organization throughout the years. UFC and Bellator MMA veteran Ryan Thomas is the organization’s current welterweight champion, and fighters like current UFC star Anthony Lapsley, UFC veteran Shamar Bailey, former WEC champion Chase Beebe, World Series of Fighting star Carson Beebe, and TUF veterans Dustin Neace, Daniel Head, and Casey Dyer have all competed inside the Colosseum Combat cage.

In addition to the big show veterans, regional stars like James Porter, Johnathan Ivey, Nick Kraus, Rob Morrow and Team Intimidation stars Bobby Emmons and Danny Surface have all graced Colosseum Combat MMA’s cage in the past.

With well-balanced matchmaking and ever-increasing fan support, Colosseum Combat stands out as a big-time player on the local MMA scene.

When asked about the reason for his success, Slater had this to say, “[Colosseum Combat] is a local MMA show where fighters can fight in front of a nice crowd in a professional setting.”

Intimidation to sponsor rising star Khama Worthy in co-main event at PinnacleFC 7 in Pittsburgh

Intimidation Clothing is pleased to announce its sponsorship of Khama “The Death Star” Worthy in his upcoming co-main event bout at PinnacleFC 7 on May 24th in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Worthy (5-2) will look for his fifth straight win when he takes on Tennessee’s Anthony Morgan (5-2).

Khama Worthy MMAKnown as a devastating striker, Worthy has earned 3 victories via knockout in his pro career, including a 26-second finish over Jacob Butler in his last outing that was featured on AXS TV’s “Inside MMA.”

Worthy made his pro debut at NAAFS: Fight Nite in the Flats VII, the largest annual MMA event in Midwest, in June 2012 in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. In a battle of former NAAFS Amateur Champions, Worthy ran into a buzzsaw in George Comer falling via submission in the 2nd round. He bounced back in his second pro fight, as he faced Victer Crenshaw from the Strong Style Fight Team in Cleveland, Ohio and finished the fight in the second round with a TKO. Worthy made his Pinnacle debut at the organization’s inaugural event in December 2012, but he was stopped via TKO against the vicious Paul Felder in a lightweight bout. But since that loss, he has reeled off four straight victories, including 3 wins since dropping to the featherweight division.

Intimidation has worked with Khama throughout most of his career dating back to his amateur fighting days, when he posted an 8-2 overall record en route to winning the NAAFS national amateur lightweight title in 2011.

In addition to sponsoring Worthy, Intimidation will be represented by Pittsburgh’s Out of the Cage Clothing at the PinnacleFC 7 event in Pittsburgh. OTC will also serve as a sponsor for Worthy. In addition, Intimidation sponsored Bobby Emmons has also been a late addition to the card.
