Featherweights flock to Intimidation

Intimidation Clothing prides itself on identifying the top upcoming talent in mixed martial arts, and many of the sport’s top featherweight prospects have been sponsored by the brand.

Currently one of the sport’s hottest prospects, Pittsburgh’s Khama Worthy (6-2) recently improved to 4-0 with three impressive knockouts since dropping to the featherweight division last year. Frank Caraballo MMAA member of Team Intimidation since his amateur career, “The Death Star” scored another big finish at PinnacleFC 7 on Memorial Day weekend, where he knocked out Anthony Morgan (5-3) in the co-main event in Pittsburgh. The flashy, athletic striker is one of a plethora of talented fighters at or near 145lbs at Fight Club Pittsburgh where the Intimidation name has been a mainstay for years.

Intimidation has also been a longtime sponsor of NAAFS featherweight champion Frank Caraballo (12-7), who has long been lauded as one of the top prospects in mixed martial arts. Now training and coaching at Cal Crowell Fitness, Athletic & MMA Training Center, “The Tank” (pictured, right) is set to headline the Driven MMA/NAAFS Fight Nite in the Flats X card in Cleveland on June 7th. As one of the most popular fighters in Northeast Ohio, Caraballo has won 7 of his last 10 fights and looks to pickup another win in front of the home crowd in Cleveland.

Cody Stevens MMACody “The Wolverine” Stevens (11-7-1) has been sponsored by Intimidation many times in the past and is known as one of Ohio’s most popular and durable fighters. Known for his willingness to fight anybody at any time, Stevens (pictured, left) has stepped in with the likes of Shinya Aoki, Jimmie Rivera, Dustin Neace, Wilson Reis, Donny Walker and more in his storied career. Having recently fought as a bantamweight as well, Stevens recently became a member of the Strong Style Fight Team, which is an official Intimidation dealer in Northeast Ohio. Stevens has also lived and trained in Thailand, where he is a member of Tiger Muay Thai and was set to face in-state rival Caraballo before an injury postponed that battle.

Outside of the Ohio Valley, Intimidation is a longtime sponsor of former CFA featherweight champion Jordan Parsons (10-1), who has posted three straight victories after a yearlong layoff. Most recently, he made his Bellator debut at Bellator 117 in Iowa, where he earned his third career knockout victory with a 1-2 combination to put his opponent to sleep just 4 seconds into the second round. With a very good record and a win inside Bellator’s cage under his belt, Parsons is vying for a tournament spot in Bellator MMA’s deep 145lb division.

One of the newest members of Team Intimidation, Terry House (6-8) is one of the Chicagoland area’s most popular fighters. A 4-time veteran of the Intimidation-sponsored Colosseum Combat MMA promotion in Kokomo, Indiana, House (pictured, right) also promotes anti-bullying in the area. Terry House MMAHe will be back in action on May 31st in Hammond, Indiana for the Intimidation sponsored United Combat League event outside of Chicago, just across the Indiana/Illinois border.

One of the longest-running sponsorships for the Intimidation brand in the 145lb division is with Bobby Emmons. One of the first fighters from Indiana ever sponsored by Intimidation, Emmons fights at both 145 and 155lbs and has his own signature tee from the popular brand which is the largest supporter of Local MMA in the Midwest, if not the USA. Emmons is a former top contender for the highly-respected Colosseum Combat MMA promotion in Kokomo, Indiana and has the clever nickname “White Trash BJJ.” Most recently, Emmons took a fight in Pittsburgh on a week’s notice and scored a 1st round submission win to improve his pro record to 4-3.

While Donny “Eagle Eye” Walker has fought just once since April of 2012, the 2-time UFC veteran has a resume few can argue with. A member of the GriffonRawl MMA Academy, Walker was one of the first fighters ever sponsored by the Intimidation brand and his signature tee was released just before winning the NAAFS featherweight title in August 2011. A police officer by day, Walker has faced many top names at 135 and 145 pounds in the Midwest.

Kyle Kyote Rozewski MMAFinally, Kyle “Kyote” Rozewski is one of the hottest featherweight prospects in the Midwest. After starting his pro MMA career at 0-2 Rozewski made the move and transition from near his hometown in Buffalo, New York to Evolve MMA in Medina, Ohio. Since that change “Kyote” (pictured, left) has gone 4-1 with his lone loss coming to retired top MMA prospect Anthony Durnell (14-4). Over a three year pro career Rozewski’s three losses have come to three fighters with a combined pro record of 21-5, and his most recent win came at the expense of one of Ohio MMA’s long-standing warriors in Dustin “The Reaper” Kempf in March 2014. Rozewski will look to continue his hot streak opposite Wes Hanson (2-0) at Driven MMA’s NAAFS: Fight Nite in the Flats X in Cleveland on June 7th.

The aforementioned Kempf and Durnell, both Team Intimidation members for years, know tough battles just like those mentioned above. While Kempf, also a police officer by day, has fought a ringer over the years including Walker, Caraballo, Rozewski and top bantamweight prospect Isaiah Chapman, “The Reaper” continues to remain active with a 6-7 pro record. Meanwhile Durnell, a member of Fight Club Pittsburgh, announced his retirement from the sport in late 2013 after a 5-1 record in his final 6 pro fights.

Looking to Intimidation’s rich crop of alumni, the brand has also worked with a plethora of top 145lb fighters. Mark Cherico MMAAmong that list is Pittsburgh MMA stars Mark “The Pride of Bloomfield” Cherico (6-0) and Justin Steave (6-4), former MTV Caged star Tony Kelley (2-0) and rising Ohio MMA star Antonio Castillo, Jr.. While Cherico (pictured, right) was sponsored by Intimidation in his final amateur fights and several professional fights, he remains one of the top prospects in the featherweight division and is rumored to be near the top of the UFC’s watch list. His teammate Justin “The Hawk” Steave was sponsored by Intimidation as an amateur and early in his pro MMA career as he won 4 straight fights in 2012-2013.

Tony “Primetime” Kelley was sponsored by Intimidation in both of his first two professional bouts, where he has earned victories in both with 1st round stoppages. Finally Castillo, a winner of 6 of his last 7 fights and the past 4 straight, was a staple of the Intimidation brand at MMA events in Cleveland for years as he built his name into one of the most avoided featherweights in the Midwest.

On the national stage, Intimidation has sponsored multiple notable fighters in Bellator’s featherweight tournaments, which has become a cornerstone division for the organization throughout its history. shah-shamhalaev01_400In the past, Intimidation has sponsored former Bellator Featherweight Champion and tournament winner Daniel Straus, tournament winner and Shah Shamhalaev (pictured, left), as well as Mike Richman, Marlon Sandro, Fabricio Guerreiro, Mike Corey, and Genair da Silva.

Cleveland’s Bellator 66 shaping up to be one of the best fight cards in Ohio MMA history

Friday, April 20th, 2012 may go down in as the best fight card in Ohio MMA history. An event that already has two marquee names in the main event with Eddie Alvarez vs. Shinya Aoki, the card appears to be building with many top local and national names. Bellator 66, the second event in Northeast Ohio by the Bellator promotion to be co-promoted with the NAAFS, will take place on Friday, April 20th, 2012 at Cleveland’s IX Center and will feature several fighters sponsored by Intimidation Clothing. Tickets for Bellator 66 are on sale and range from $30-$125 and the Intimidation brand is expected to be on hand selling at the event.

Jessica Eye MMAWhile Alvarez vs. Aoki is the headliner for the event, the local fans in the Cleveland area will have plenty of local stars to cheer for. In a fight with implications for both the Bellator and NAAFS promotions, local favorite Jessica “Evil” Eye (6-1, 1-0 Bellator) will face Aisling Daly (13-2, 0-1 Bellator) in the highly anticipated rematch of their June 2011 fight which saw Daly submit Eye. Not only does the fight have the NAAFS Women’s Championship belt on the line, but it could also factor into Bellator’s future women’s tournament plans with both Eye and Daly being Bellator veterans and ranked in the Top 10 in the world at 125 lbs.

Along with the Eye vs. Daly fight, the event will feature yet another fight with an NAAFS belt on the line as 2-time UFC veteran Donny “Eagle Eye” Walker (18-9) fights for the first time since his release from the UFC and faces Frank “The Tank” Caraballo (8-4). Walker, the NAAFS Featherweight Champion will face the Interim Champ in Caraballo, a 2-time Bellator veteran.

Also on the card will be NAAFS Light Heavyweight Champion and 2-time Bellator veteran Dan “The Dragon” Spohn (6-1), owner of the 2nd fastest KO in Bellator history, a 9-second KO at Bellator 51. Spohn will face the toughest test of his MMA career in facing Attila Vegh (24-4), a recent signee to Bellator’s 205 pound division. Another fighter taking on possibly the toughest test of his career is “Big” John Hawk (6-4), a fighter who is very familiar with Spohn. Donny Walker NAAFS ChampionHawk, who fought Spohn to decision twice only to drop both fights, is expected to face Marcus Vanttinen (21-3), a fighter who Vegh defeated by decision in May 2011.

The final piece that puts this card over the top is the announced addition of Bellator’s Season 6 Middleweight Tournament semifinals taking place at this event. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney announced that the 185 lb tourney semifinals will take place in Cleveland with Cleveland’s own Brian “The Predator” Rogers (9-3, 2-1 Bellator) facing Bruno Santos (13-0, 1-0 Bellator) and Vyacheslav Vasilevsky (16-1, 1-0 Bellator) faces Maiquel Falcao (29-4, 1-0). The winners will advance to the Season 6 Middleweight Tournament final with the winner of the tournament earning a $100,000 payday.
