Intimidation Clothing Athlete of the Month: Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke

With the recent boom of women’s mixed martial arts, many feel that the division is based on the success of one woman. Jessamyn Duke & Luke ZachrichDespite multiple top-notch fighters on the radar, the real depth comes when you begin to look at the massive amount of top-level prospects that women’s MMA has on the horizon.

One such fighter is unbeaten bantamweight Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke (2-0), a 5’11″ physical specimen who is taller than most men who fight at 135 pounds. Clearly something special since winning her amateur debut with strikes in less than two minutes, Duke recently made her professional debut on the all-female Invicta FC 2 card where she laid a beatdown on Suzie Montero to start her career with a bang. Then, she followed up with a first round submission over Marciea Allen at Invicta FC 3 to continue her hot streak and move to 2-0 in her career.

The next stop for the Kentucky native will be Invicta FC 5, as she will once again travel to Kansas City, where she is set to take on Miriam Nakamoto (1-0) in a preliminary matchup. A member of the AFS Academy in Kentucky, Duke is a decorated striker who was referred to as “mini Wanderlei Silva” during her fight against Montero.

Jessamyn Duke WMMAA highly goal-oriented fighter, Duke plans to be fighting for a professional title within the next two years. If she continues to impress on a big stage like she has with Invicta, that time frame sounds about right for “The Gun.”

“When I launched BluegrassMMA, I took 10 people to a local show in Northern Kentucky. The first MMA title fight I witnessed live was Jessamyn Duke vs. Sarah Cook. The whole group was blown away by here skill. From there I have either been to or watched every fight of hers live and I have had the pleasure of interviewing her several times as well as be one of her sponsors,” stated Gary Thomas of Bluegrass MMA. “Her athletic ability hasn’t been tapped yet and look at her resume. Undefeated as a pro is impressive, but what is even more impressive is her work ethic and commitment to her craft. We are all going to be witness to something great with Jessamyn as she grows in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. Not only is she a great ambassador for women’s MMA but my wife even commented that one day she hopes our daughter loves something as much as Jess loves MMA”

As a result of the thrilling start to her pro MMA career, which includes two stoppages in as many fights, Jessamyn Duke is officially the Intimidation Clothing Sponsored Athlete of the Month for March 2013. Jessamyn Duke WMMA“We are pleased to announce Jessamyn Duke as our Athlete of the Month,” stated Luke Jernigan, President & CEO of Intimidation Clothing, LLC. “Jessamyn has proven not only to be a fantastic talent in the world of women’s MMA, but she also fits the mold of the kind of person Intimidation looks to sponsor, something we place a great amount of value on. As an amateur, Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke answered the hype time and time again. Not only was she the Absolute Action MMA women’s Champion at 145 pounds as an amateur but the native of Kentucky also traveled out to Las Vegas, Nevada twice during her amateur career bringing home the Tuff-N-Uff Championship belt in July 2011. On Saturday night Duke (1-0) showed why she is one of the hottest prospects in professional women’s MMA scoring a 3rd round TKO win over Suzie Montero (1-1) at Invicta FC 2 in Kansas City, Kansas.
